Over the week of July 4th Mary and I drove all over Northern California visiting family and recharging our batteries. We went to San Francisco twice, went to the coast twice, walked through the Avenue of the Giants, and drove the Napa and Sonoma valleys from top to bottom. My original plan was to photograph and paint as the week went along but I was having way too much fun with my bride to turn my attention away from her and my family. The week was an amazing blessing and now that we are home I am using the more than 500 photos I took as inspiration for many paintings.
One afternoon we visited an old family friend. He and his wife built a beautiful home on a meadow near the coast. Fog rolls in over the tree tops creating a magical atmosphere. I know I may never see him again so our time together was special. As we left his beautiful hydrangea bush caught my eye. The image below shows part of the photo I took and the painting I created inspired by the amazing colors.
